Chamber member Clean Harbors, headquartered in Norwell, tops the Boston Business Journals' list of best-performing businesses of 2010. Clean Harbors Environmental Services Inc. is the largest hazardous waste disposal company in North America and has been a member of the SSCC since 1986.

Member Spotlight: Murtha Cullina Earns Special Recognition Award in Greater Boston Food Bank's Legal Food Frenzy

 

 

Attorneys and staff of Murtha Cullina LLP participated in the 2011 Greater Boston Food Bank’s Legal Food Frenzy from March 28 through April 8.  Through a combination of monetary donations, food collection, fundraisers, walks, a raffle, and friendly interoffice competitions, Murtha Cullina collected the equivalent of over 37,000 pounds of food towards the Greater Boston Food Bank’s mission to end hunger in the Commonwealth.  At the award ceremony on May 2^nd, Attorney General Martha Coakley presented Murtha Cullina with a Special Recognition Award for the Most Actual Food Collected by a Medium Firm. Murtha Cullina’s efforts placed them 4^th in the overall competition amongst over 70 participating organizations. 

“Murtha Cullina chose the Legal Food Frenzy as a community service project to support the Firm’s community impact as it celebrates its 75^th anniversary, and through a Firm-wide effort, collected more than 18 tons of food for needy families” said Robert J. Munnelly, Jr., the Boston office Partner-in-Charge.  “I’m appreciative of the efforts of attorneys and staff in all offices to achieve this marvelous result” said Munnelly.

A Turning Point for SouthField and the South Shore: A Message from the President

The Chamber is excited about this week’s announcement that John Corcoran & Co. will start construction on 226 rental apartments at SouthField, the former Weymouth Naval Air Base.  Anybody wondering about the South Shore’s economic future should recognize this as one of the milestones at SouthField which leads regional growth that will run at least a decade and perhaps much longer.  

 The Corcoran announcement is the fourth housing deal at SouthField announced in the last few months but it is the largest one and it targets the demographic that will most likely change the face of the South Shore.  The Corcoran apartments should be very appealing to a young people looking for housing near Boston.

 One of the South Shore’s competitive advantages over the next decade will come from the large number of 25 to 45 year olds that will be drawn by the new housing we are building on the South Shore.  The largest projects are connected to Boston by rail and boat.  That young, educated talent pool will make the South Shore more appealing for companies deciding where to locate and build their businesses. 

 John Corcoran & Co. is a Braintree based company with long ties to the Chamber and the South Shore.  One of the unnoticed but exciting facts from SouthField is the initial housing contracts have gone to local companies.  This reinforces the positive impact the massive development will have on the regional economy and how it can help businesses throughout the region.

The Norfolk and Plymouth Estate and Business Planning Council will be hosting an Estate Planning Day at the Boston Marriott Quincy this Saturday, April 7th from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The educationally oriented event will cover many topics of interest to both individuals and members of the business community such as: Planning for Elders, Why Might I need a Trust?, Retirement Income Planning, and Succession Planning.

The council is a non-profit organization comprised of Certified Public Accountants, Estate and Trust Attorney’s, Financial Planners, Insurance agents, and Trust Officers.
