Kevin T. White, CPA, discusses the growth of Rockland-based accounting firm Needle, Welch & Stone following its January merger with Connecticut-based Blum Shapiro in a Patriot Ledger interview.

White is managing partner of the firm's Rockland office and has been pro-active with developing plans to expand Blum Shapiro's reach in Greater Boston and on the South Shore.

Needle, Welch & Stone joined the South Shore Chamber in 1973 and the firm, now under the Blum Shapiro name, is a President's Partner. Kevin White, who joined Needel, Welch & Stone in 1986 after graduating from UMass Amhearst, sits on the Chamber's Executive Committee.

SouthField - ground broken for Parkway, first new homes.

With groundbreaking Monday, July 26, construction is getting underway on the Parkway and the first new housing units at SouthField, on the site of the former South Weymouth Naval Air Station. Details in the Boston Globe.

Chamber members elected selectmen in Hanover, Rockland

Congratulations to Susan Setterland who was just elected to the Hanover Board of Selectmen. Susan is Vice President and Director of Retail Banking for S Bank.  She also serves as vice chair of the Weymouth Business Council. 

Susan is becomes third active Chamber member to serve on a Board of Selectmen . Bill Minahan, president of aNetworks, Inc. was just elected to the board in Rockland.

John Mariano of Paramount Partners, and the current chairman of the Hanover/Norwell Business Council, is a long-serving Selectman in Norwell.

Disaster Recovery Center opens in Quincy to aid flooded businesses and homeowners

The Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Small Business Administration have opened a Disaster Recovery Center in Quincy to assist businesses and residents that were hit by the recent floods and heavy rains.

FEMA recommends calling first to begin the registration process. Applicants should register by calling FEMA toll-free 800-621-FEMA (3362).

The location and hours of the Quincy Disaster Recovery Center are:

South Coastal Bank helps bring poetry to life for Braintree kids

South Coastal Bank has awarded the Ross Elementary School PTO in Braintree a $500 grant from its South Coastal Bank C.A.R.E.S. community giving program.
 
South Coastal Bank specifically designed C.A.R.E.S. to help local not-for-profit groups promote and encourage a sense of Community, Achievement, Responsibility and Excellence in children through exposure to the arts.
 
The PTO applied C.A.R.E.S. funds toward a presentation of Young Audiences of Massachusetts' "Poetry in Motion." The participatory program is performed by actor David Zucker, who uses mime, comedy, props, costume pieces, masks, puppets and audience interaction to bring to life the best of English language poetic literature of such authors as A.A. Milne, Lewis Carroll, Langston Hughes and James Whitcomb Riley.
